The Luzerner Kantonalbank (LUKB) was founded in 1850. Today, with its 28 branch offices and staff numbering about 1,000, it is the leading bank in the canton of Lucerne and one of Switzerland's largest cantonal banks. Its core areas of business include mortgage financing, financing of small and medium-sized businesses, and private banking. Since 2001, the LUKB has operated as a public limited company. Its shares are listed on the SWX Swiss Exchange. Approximately one third of the share capital is broadly distributed among private shareholders, and two thirds is owned by the Canton of Lucerne. The LUKB is a government guaranteed banking institution.
